BELVILLE, NC, July 5, 2025

The National Hurricane Center has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the Coastal Carolinas which extends from the South Santee River through all coastal areas north up to Surf City, which will include impacts to Brunswick and New Hanover Counties. It is possible that we will experience high winds, heavy rain with associated flooding, tidal surge, rip currents and possible tornadic activity this weekend as the storm travels north.

The heaviest impacts to Brunswick County are expected to occur within the next 24 hours.

All residents, property owners, and boating interests should begin to make preparations to secure their property, be advised of expected heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding and rip currents. Please secure outdoor furniture, building materials, toys, garden tools, and any other harmful objects that could blow around in high winds. Keep your vehicles fueled and familiarize yourselves with shelter locations and evacuation routes:

All residents with special needs are encouraged to register with the Brunswick County Emergency Services Department by calling (910)253-5383 or completing the special medical needs form online at

Residents should be advised that tornadoes are a possibility with hurricanes or tropical storms and may spawn with short notice. Most injuries from tornadoes are caused by being struck by falling or wind-borne debris. Identify where you will seek cover should a tornado threaten the area. Town officials are in constant contact with emergency management officials and the weather service and will provide information as necessary.

“We encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions to stay safe,” said Mayor Mike Allen, “and we will do our best to keep you informed.”

We remind everyone that the impacts from this Tropical Storm may include flooding and encourage you all to continue your preparedness activities and remain safe. Should you see water across the road, Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Stay tuned to your local radio and television stations for any additional information.
